Spinal Decompression

This alternative back pain relief treatment is one of our most popular, as it effectively produces long-lasting neck and back pain relief.

What is Spinal Decompression?

Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal decompression is a non-surgical back pain relief procedure. It’s a simple, non-invasive therapy used in the treatment of damaged discs using negative pressure. Patients are positioned on the spinal decompression table for a quick, 20-minute, procedure.

Recent studies into what is known as DTS Spinal Decompression, or decompression traction system spinal decompression, has a high success rate. One set of findings from an in-office patient study shows a reduction in disc herniation in 10 out of 14 patients. Another study indicates that a large number of in-office patients suffering from radiating pain, numbness and tingling experienced good to excellent results shortly after spinal decompression treatments.

Put Spinal Discs Back in their Place

During this back pain relief therapy, damaged or misaligned spinal discs are treated with a vacuum-like pressure. When this negative pressure is applied to the damaged area it does two things. First, it draws the protruding disc matter back into place, aiding in the restoration of internal disc material. Then, spinal decompression stimulates the growth of new blood supply and promotes an increase in oxygen, triggering the healing process.

Who Needs Spinal Decompression?

Patients that have common, non-severe problem may find relief through spinal decompression therapy at our back pain relief clinics in either Edwardsville or Millstadt. Common spine conditions and symptoms that may be relieved with this type of therapy include:

  • Sciatica
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Numbness/Tingling
  • Bulging/Herniated Discs
  • Headaches/Migraines
  • Stiffness/Weakness
  • Pinched Nerves

Oxygen Therapy and Spinal Decompression

Some conditions and pathologies make it difficult for the body to get the amount of oxygen needed for optimum functionality. Oxygen therapy may be effectively combined with spinal decompression therapy to supplement this need and to enhance the natural healing process. When the body is able to intake more oxygen it can produce more energy and, in turn, improve the flow of nutrients into the blood stream.

How Does Oxygen Therapy Work?

Our cells, tissues, and organs need oxygen to function properly. We use food and oxygen to make adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is the source of energy that boosts cell function. When tissue is damaged, an increase in oxygen can accelerate the healing process, especially when used in tandem with non-invasive, pain-free spinal decompression.

Our Edwardsville and Millstadt specialists employ oxygen therapy to help maximize the effects of our spinal decompression treatments. While the decompression works to create a vacuum in the spaces between the spinal discs, oxygen therapy helps increase the amount of oxygen-rich blood flowing to injured tissue. These complementary therapies can increase the effectiveness of rehabilitation sessions and speed up the healing process.
